Climate Adaptation & Resilience

Project Manager, 2024-2025, Austin, Texas

The UT-City Climate CoLab is a collaborative initiative based at the University of Texas at Austin focused on addressing meteorological shocks and stressors and its impact on urban areas. It brings together researchers, policymakers, stakeholder and community members to develop innovative solutions and strategies for building resilient cities. As the project manager I led efforts with 13 UT Professors, 12 City Departments, and community groups in creating and utilizing localized climate data to advance climate resilience, adaptation, and mitigation. The UNESCO X UT City CoLab partnership was endorsed by the Scientific Steering Committee (SSC) of the World Meteorological Organization / World Weather Research Programme (WWRP) and in 2024 we secured $3 million in federal funding for research on extreme weather, digital twins, and impacts in Austin neighborhoods.

Austin CARES: Climate Adaptation and REsilient communitieS

  • Building gridded downscale data to high-resolution 24-year gridded climatology for ~100 meter gridded temperature data and 2 meter heat and thermal stress datasets. Focuses on utilizing NASA's Earth Observation (EO) datasets and building workbooks with partnering boundary organizations for the use of EO for their operations and similar groups.

  • Funded by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration

Workshops

I led multiple workshops for the UT–City Climate CoLab, including the Connecting Students to Climate Research workshop during the PT2050 Symposium, which bridges academia and municipal climate initiatives by helping students align their interests with impactful, city-driven research, and Una Nave Frágil, a community event around extreme heat in partnership with the City of Austin, Tapi Studios, and Go Austin Vamos Austin. I also formed the advisory committee with Deans and City Department Directors and designed interactive activities to create a larger vision and road-map.
