International Climate Diplomacy
Alexia played a leadership role in international climate negotiations, serving as COP27 Delegation Co-Leader for SustainUs, where she led a delegation of eight BIPOC youth. She was actively involved in successful advocacy to establish the UNFCCC Loss and Damage Fund, coordinating high-level bilateral meetings with John Kerry, the U.S. negotiations team, AOSIS, Maldives, and Germany to advance Loss and Damage outcomes.
She closely tracked mitigation negotiations to ensure frontline and marginalized community perspectives were represented, while also acting as a core organizer in a global coalition of more than 50 youth organizers and as an advisory for the People’s Climate Diplomacy Program. Alexia attended the UNFCCC Subsidiary Bodies Conference in Bonn, COP28, COP30, advocating for an equitable fossil fuel phase-out, efforts that contributed to the historic inclusion of language on transitioning away from fossil fuels in the final Global Stocktake text in Dubai and the adoption of the Just Transition Belem Action Mechanism in Belem.
In addition, she initiated and led a high-visibility accountability campaign, distributing over 2,000 “not paid by the fossil fuel industry” stickers, which directly contributed to the COP28 Presidency’s commitment to publish attendees’ fossil fuel industry ties.
